Lawn mowing and garden care in Highton & Belmont
I look after lawns and gardens on the south side of the Barwon: Highton, Belmont, Grovedale and Waurn Ponds, up the hill to Wandana Heights and out to the new streets of Armstrong Creek. One written quote before work starts, and you will hear back the same day.
What I do in Highton & Belmont
Everything I do across Geelong, I do here. Regular mowing rounds. Hedges brought back to a clean line. Trees pruned properly, beds designed, mulched and weeded, and gutters cleared before the wet months. Green waste always goes with me, so the garden is left clean and tidy.

Gardening in Highton & Belmont
There are three kinds of ground squeezed into this corner of Geelong, and they garden very differently. Down through Grovedale and Waurn Ponds you are on loam over limestone: fair soil, middling drainage, and lime in the subsoil that pushes the pH up. Highton and Wandana Heights climb the old sandstone country of the Barrabool Hills, where a lighter topsoil sits over clay on the drier slopes. And the newer estates towards Armstrong Creek sit on heavy basalt clay that drains poorly, so new lawns and beds out there need gypsum, compost and patience.
Those slopes face north over the Barwon and they bake in summer. Geelong is one of the drier corners of Victoria, around 510 mm of rain a year, and late summer is the driest stretch. The clay answers back both ways: it cracks open in a dry February, then sits wet and heavy through winter.
When a big storm does land, water moves fast down these hills. The council maps parts of Highton, Wandana Heights and Belmont for overland stormwater flows in a serious downpour, so where the water runs is worth thinking about before you set out beds, paths or a new lawn. On the sloping blocks the work is terraces, retaining walls and banks that want to erode. On the flats, it is drainage.
Plant choice does a lot of the heavy lifting here. Local natives shrug off the lime and the dry: Yellow Gum, Drooping Sheoke, Silver Banksia, Sweet Bursaria, and tough grasses like Kangaroo Grass and Common Tussock Grass. Acid lovers have a harder time. Azaleas, camellias and rhododendrons often yellow off around Waurn Ponds and Grovedale because the limey ground locks up the iron they need. Anything that hates wet feet will sulk on the poorly drained flats through winter. And kikuyu and couch runners creeping into garden beds are a constant edge battle in every suburb on this page.
Water rules apply here like the rest of the region. Under Barwon Water's permanent water saving rules, watering systems can only run between 6pm and 10am, while a hand-held hose with a trigger nozzle is fine any time. It is one more reason mulch earns its keep in a Geelong summer.
Check before you cut
This area sits in the City of Greater Geelong, and since September 2025 Victoria has a canopy tree rule that applies in most residential zones. If a tree stands over 5 metres tall, with a trunk more than half a metre around measured 1.4 metres up, and a canopy at least 4 metres wide, removing or lopping it can need a planning permit. Some exemptions apply, and overlays on a property can add their own triggers. So before a big tree comes down or gets cut hard, check with the City of Greater Geelong. I raise this early when I quote tree work, so there are no surprises later.

Highton & Belmont questions, answered.
Do you run regular mowing rounds in Highton and Belmont?
Yes. Weekly, fortnightly or monthly rounds, set to the season and how fast your lawn grows. These suburbs sit in the middle of my service area, so finding a slot for a regular round is usually easy. Green waste goes with me on every visit.
Will you travel here for a one-off job?
Yes. A one-off catch-up mow, a hedge brought back to shape, or a full garden tidy before a sale or an inspection are all fine. You do not need to sign up for a round to book one.
How does quoting work?
The same way it works everywhere I go. We walk the garden together, you tell me what you want, and I send one written quote before any work starts. The number you approve is the number you pay. Call 0452 319 113 or use the form below, and you will hear back the same day.
